About

Statement

In my paintings, I create abstract forms that fuse human, animal and botanical elements, using small specks as building blocks. The inspiration for working this way came from the experience of drinking tea and glimpsing beautiful images in the tea grounds at the bottom of the cup. The use of circles originated from the circular framing of the cup around the tea grounds. I seek to evoke the impermanence and interconnectedness of all things. Patterns in nature are a major motif, especially that which appears in tree branches, neurons and river networks. The imagery plays with micro vs macro and can alternately suggest the view under a microscope or through a telescope.
